Microsoft Windows NT Migrations for 2005

Many Windows NT and exchange 5.5 platform users are trying to finish their migrations for 2005, but mostly likely were not going to be able to finish securely. In early December, Microsoft announced that custom support will provide security hotfixes for critical and important vulnerabilities for these Windows NT customers through 2006 and for Exchange 5.5 users through 2007.

Since both Windows NT 5.5 and Exchange 5.5 lost support January 1, 2005 including publicly available support materials, the custom support will help customers complete migrations. The custom support will be flat fee based and is offered in 3 month cycles instead of 6 months. It will cover all Windows NT 5.5 servers in the organization.

According to IDC, Windows NT still has a 2.3 Windows servers. Therefore many users can take advantage of this extension the make sure they can migrate with ready.

Microsoft Releasing Patches Every Month

Patches for your windows OS decided on releasing patches every month. Company IT managers like the change... due to predictable cycles of installing the patches and security. It gives administrators time to test functions and features with out dealing with multiple patches at once. Before patches might come once a day or once a weeks, they would always be testing.

Microsoft reports that 320% increase in the use of Windows Update. 400% increase in the use of automatic updates.

However, some security experts say hackers now time their attackes at the same time of the patch release. In fact many providers notice problems hours after a new patch is released.
